Research Overview

My dissertation research focuses on an area of interest in Dr. Rosa-Molinar’s research lab.  Not all electrical synapses, gap junctions, are alike. My research seeks to: understand why certain types of gap junction proteins, connexins, are used in some electrical synapses and not others; what unique functions arise from the use of asymmetric electrical synapses; and their role in shaping a neuronal network’s behavior and plasticity.
