3b. Taking Quizzes and Exams in the Distance Learning Program

All quizzes or exams will be administered through ExamSoft. Please note that our license for the Examplify software only allows assessments to be taken on an iPad device. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain a personal iPad device or secure access to an iPad to take all the assessments in the didactic component of the Distance M.S. program. An iPhone will work but the size of the screen is problematic for viewing questions and figures. Follow this ExamSoft link to get instructions on downloading the software for Examplify for iPad and to view a tutorial. Once you have downloaded and set up your software, you can access it directly on your device. Instructors will make quizzes or exams available to the enrolled students and these will show up on your Examplify screen. You then just download the quiz/test and tap start to initiate the timed assessment.

To familiarize you with the software, a sample quiz will be available for you to download and complete in your first course, P&TX750. You should do this before you attempt your first real quiz/exam. Your instructor will indicate when each quiz or exam should be taken. You may take any exam/quiz at your leisure, but each test will typically have a 15-60 minute time limit once the test is opened. The ExamSoft software will disable you from accessing the internet during your testing session. Since this is a distance learning exercise, the student is on his/her honor to avoid using outside resources to complete a quiz/test unless otherwise permitted by the instructor.

For many of the courses, you will be able to download all the assessments and store them on your device if you choose. However, please be aware that each assessment can only be downloaded once. Thus, if something happens to your device (breaks, stolen, etc.) you will not be able to download the assessments again and there are no second chances. Thus, it is recommended that you download only the assessment you wish to take. If you have any issues in accessing the assessments, please contact your instructor.

Once you have downloaded the assessment that you want to take, tap start to initiate the timed assessment. DO NOT click to begin an assessment unless you intend to complete it. Once initiated, the timer begins and you must complete the assessment. If you are not prepared, this may impact your performance and there are no second chances. Make sure your battery is sufficiently charged or that you can use your device while charging. If your battery dies, this may impact your performance and there are no second chances. However, do not panic if your computer freezes or you get kicked out of the program prematurely. If you are unable to complete the assessment due to a computer or program problem, please contact your instructor ASAP. He/She may be able to supply a code that will allow you back into the program. Your instructor will try to work with you to get the situation rectified.

Once you complete the assessment, it is necessary to upload the quiz/exam to the ExamSoft website to complete the assessment. If you lose your internet connection during this period, this will also be a potential problem if you cannot reconnect to upload your completed assessment. Please avoid taking the assessments during storms or at sites with unstable internet connections. In many courses, taking the quizzes is totally self-directed. It is recommended that you try to work through the courses at an even pace and not try to cram completing the videos and quizzes into the final weeks of a semester.
