Research

Dr. Akhter worked as a research assistant at the Uttar Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (UP-CST) sponsored Project (UP-CST/SERPD/D-3795). As a graduate student, he worked on lipoprotein glycation and its immunogenic role in diabetes and atherosclerosis. He standardized the preliminary work related to the glycation protocol in the laboratory using different biomolecules, and glycating agents. He also worked on more than 1000 patients’ serum samples (Type 2 diabetes mellitus, atherosclerosis, Type 2 diabetes mellitus-atherosclerosis and rheumatoid patient’s) for the detection of circulatory antibodies against glycated conformers. His current project focuses on identification, characterization and structure elucidation of various glycation biomolecules, responsible for the cause of Neurological disorders. His goal is to identify various therapeutic approaches for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease by blocking of AGEs.
